During welding, the leading edge of the annular beam raises the temperature of the workpiece high enough to increase its absorption capacity at the laser wavelength. Subsequently, a keyhole is generated at the center of the beam, which is very stable due to preheating. The trailing edge of the annular beam provides sufficient support for the molten pool, allowing gas to escape. In short, the central beam is mainly used for deep penetration welding, while the outer ring beam plays a role in minimizing the kinetic energy of escaping steam, stabilizing the melt pool, reducing temperature gradients, and minimizing splashing effects. Therefore, the process window of using circular spot welding is larger, making it easier to obtain uniform, consistent, pore free, and splash free welds
Compared with ordinary fiber lasers, using a ring spot laser for welding does not result in significant splashing, and the appearance of the weld seam is more uniform and consistent. This not only improves welding efficiency but also ensures welding quality.
